FOLK TALES = imagination/fantasy + fact

FOLKTALES FROM MANY LANDS is a project of art creation and exhibition that encourages imagination and exploration in a city that never seems to stop, think and ponder beyond. It seeks to incite magic in the everyday and encourages the sharing of stories, experiences and memory. Folktales embraces elements of fantasy vs reality, nature vs city, drifting and traveling, collective experience and memory. It is a project that disrupts lines of narrative and transgresses concepts of artistic creation and presentation.

THE JOURNEY

Within the constant non-stop flow of working people, the noisy streets, and stacks of skyscrapers wavering in polluted air of Hong Kong, there is no time and space to stop, think or explore. Folktales From Many Lands is a project about journey and artistic experience that seeks explore the unique and diverse landscapes of Hong Kong.

In the form of a mobile day-trip, Folktales presents a series of mini-exhibitions and performances in 4 remote locations around the city. In collaboration with 6 local artists, Folktales weaves a story/tale about a journey that is in the end told by all those participating.

Each person and each place has a story. Each day and moment, every person is experiencing one's own unique narrative.

From a range of music, performance, sculpture/installation and multi-disciplinary arts, Folktales brings together a group of micro-narratives that contribute to a larger whole of the story/journey. Moments, stills, video captures, and objects will be all that remain of a days' trip. These fragments of memory and artifact will be collected from all artists and passengers, and presented in an exhibition supported by 1a Space - telling the story of a journey from multiple perspectives simultaneously.

Dear all,

After a year following a wonderful jouney and exhibition. We are happy to annouce we are working on a publication / book for the project! It will include documentation of the journey and contributing texts from invited artists and writers. Please keep checking back for details. Hello friends,

we are happy to tell you the FOLKTALE exhibition has been doing very well! There were our friends, fans, artist folks, audiences, teachers, students... coming to visit and support the exhibition and our project. Their participation lighten up the space and made the exchanges possible :)

The documentation is the main line of the exhibition. In the exhibition, we have displayed the artworks of the artists, the video documentations, the photos taken by our audiences in the trip to ensemble a multiple view of their experience.

In the next stage, we are planning to do a publication about this project with all materials we have. Hopefully, we can make it happened in the coming spring.

At last, thank you for your attention and support to our project!
